2 New Teams Are Linked to Jimmy Butler

January 7, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

The Grizzlies are considered a top suitor for Jimmy Butler.

There have been many surprises thus far in the 2024–2025 NBA season, but none like Jimmy Butler‘s story. His story is arguably one of the most fascinating thus far. Ahead of the February 6th trade deadline, the Miami Heat star has made it clear he wants to be traded. After many rumors, Butler recently officially requested a trade. Recently the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies have emerged as possible suitors. Basketball fans and NBA analysts are speculating about what this possible blockbuster trade may signify for each of the participating teams.

2 New Teams Are Linked to Jimmy Butler

The Heat are at a turning point in their history. Miami had great expectations going into the new season after their unsuccessful playoff run last season. However, they have had trouble staying consistent. There are increasing rumors that Miami’s front management is trying to retool its squad for the future. They don’t care if Butler is still the team’s heart and soul. The Heat would need to change their approach if they traded Butler, a key player and seasoned veteran. On the flipside, they might also receive a huge haul of assets in exchange.

Butler’s Fit With the Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies are next. The Grizzlies, a club on the rise in the Western Conference, are well-known for their tough playstyle and young core, which is led by Ja Morant. A player like Butler would provide the Grizzlies with the postseason experience and seasoned leadership they need to go to the next level of contention. The Grizzlies recently became the odds-on favorite to land Butler. According to reports, Memphis is prepared to give up some combination of Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart, and John Konchar, as well as draft picks, to acquire Butler. GG Jackson and Santi Aldama could also be included in discussions. Morant and Butler together might form one of the league’s most potent duos, one that can advance far in the playoffs.

Butler’s Fit With the Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks are another team that is in the running. The Bucks had a slow start but are climbing up the ladder as one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference after acquiring Damian Lillard in the offseason. However, it’s intriguing to see Butler joining a core that already included Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Lillard. With Butler contributing more scoring, defense, and leadership, Milwaukee would have one of the most formidable lineups in recent memory. While Butler’s fit with the Bucks is ideal, especially as they need another two-way wing as a second-apron team it’s impossible for them to make a trade without giving up Giannis or Dame. Ultimately, despite this report, the Heat must look elsewhere to find a landing spot for Butler.

The Last Word

The stakes are extremely high for all two teams as the February 6th trade deadline draws near. While the Heat are considering losing Butler, the Grizzlies are focused on contending right away. There is little doubt that the NBA landscape may drastically change in the upcoming weeks. As a result, this created the conditions for an incredible second half of the season. It will be interesting to see if Butler lands with the Grizzlies or elsewhere and what package the Heat will get in return.
