Jacob Misiorowski is good at baseball.
While it’s clear that he can get a little overexcited at times — just look at the first inning of Monday night’s game against the Cubs — he’s as good as anyone at mowing down hitters.
Just take a look at his Baseball Savant page.
He ranks in the 99th percentile in fastball velo, and he’d rank in the top 10 percentile for xERA, xBA, and strikeout rate if he qualified. In fact, if he were to pitch 200 innings (which he almost certainly will not do for at least another couple of years), he’d be on pace to strike out 282 batters. That’s why it’s conceivable he could eventually reach 300 strikeouts in a season.
How rare is that? There have been just 19 players (albeit a few who have done it multiple times) in the modern era (since 1900) to have reached the 300-strikeout threshold, including just five since 2015 and none since 2019.
