Mets Acquire Brewers Ace in Four-Player Trade

January 22, 2026 by Last Word On Baseball

Just days after signing star infielder Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million deal and one day removed from a trade for center fielder Luis Robert Jr., the New York Mets swung a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for one of the game’s best starting pitchers, Freddy Peralta, on Wednesday night. New York is acquiring right-handers Peralta and Tobias Myers in exchange for No. 5 pitching prospect Brandon Sproat and No. 3 prospect Jett Williams. Jon Heyman of the New York Post was first to report an imminent trade, with ESPN’s Jeff Passan later confirming it. The team then announced the deal on social media.

Mets Swing Trade for Freddy Peralta

Peralta is slated to make $8 million this year, his last before reaching free agency. Peralta will slot in as the new Mets’ ace.

The Mets’ rotation currently projects to be led by Peralta, rookie Nolan McLean, David Peterson, Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea, and Clay Holmes. Top prospect Jonah Tong will serve as a key depth piece, as well as Christian Scott, who is returning from Tommy John surgery and expects to be fully healthy by spring training.

BREAKING: The New York Mets have acquired All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sources tell ESPN. Deal is done. Top prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat are headed to Milwaukee. One more big league pitcher will head to the Mets.

Peralta, 29, pitched to a record of 17-6 (fourth-best in MLB), a 2.70 ERA (seventh-best), 204 strikeouts (ninth-best), and a 1.075 WHIP (13th-best). The two-time All-Star also had a career-high 5.5 WAR, which tied for the seventh-best in the league, and allowed just 53 earned runs, which is a new three-year low for him.

Peralta and the Mets already share some sense of connection, with President of Baseball Operations David Stearns having been part of the same organization as the right-hander for nearly seven seasons. Peralta signed with the Seattle Mariners as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2013. Stearns acquired the right-hander in a trade in 2015 during his time as Brewers GM.

On Tobias Myers

Tobias Myers is the other piece going to the Mets in the deal. The 27-year-old has two big-league seasons under his belt. Myers, 27, pitched mainly out of the bullpen for the Brewers last season, logging a 3.55 ERA in 22 games (50 2/3 IP). In addition, the Mets get Myers with five years of club control remaining.

Sproat & Williams

Brandon Sproat made his MLB debut for the Mets this season in the latter months of the season, during which they were fighting for a playoff spot.  Sproat, 24, posted a 4.29 ERA in four starts (20 2/3 IP).

Jett Williams has reached as far as Triple-A in his young career. Williams, 22, posted a .261/.363/.465 slash line with an .828 OPS, 17 home runs, 52 RBI in 130 games last year.
