He excels at the top of the lineup, boasting strong contact ability, on-base skills, and disruptive base running. More than just numbers, Frelick’s presence at the top of the lineup has directly coincided with Milwaukee’s surges this summer, both offensively and defensively.
Frelick’s diagnosis, a Grade I hamstring strain, is relatively mild, often called a “pulled” muscle, and typically results in a player being considered day-to-day. However, Major League Baseball data shows that even mild hamstring strains frequently cost position players one to two weeks and carry a high risk of re-injury if not allowed to fully heal. Frelick was placed on the injured list on Friday, indicating they are wary of rushing him back.

What Will the Brewers Lose Without Frelick?

As a Gold Glover, Frelick covers ground in right field that few can match. Defensive replacements may bring solid gloves, but won’t replicate his closing speed and arm. They can do this by balancing risk and holding their collective breath as every game gains importance. If Frelick returns at full strength by August, the Brewers’ postseason hopes look solid.
