Woody’s back!
Milwaukee looks to leave Miami today with a series victory after losing last night’s game 4-2.
On the hill for the Brewers — for the first time since 2023 — is former rotation mainstay Brandon Woodruff. Woodruff was injured twice (ankle and elbow) this season while rehabbing from right shoulder capsule surgery, but will finally make his season debut today against the Marlins. The two-time National League All-Star sports a career 3.10 ERA in seven seasons with Milwaukee.
Woody has posted a 2.79 ERA this season in 10 minor league rehab starts. He’s looked effective despite a slight dip in velocity, with his fastball hovering around 92-93 as opposed to 96-97 pre-injury. Woodruff did touch 95.4 mph in his last start, so hopefully the dip in velocity was due to a need to build up strength in that surgically repaired shoulder.

On the hill for the Marlins will be Edward Cabrera. The 6’5” right-hander has been a bright spot in Miami’s rotation this year with a 3.41 ERA (3.83 FIP) in 14 starts. He hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start since April, a trend that the Brewers hope to put an end to.
Manager Pat Murphy has made a few changes to the lineup today, all in the bottom half. Sal Frelick, William Contreras (DH’ing today), Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and Brice Turang make up the 1-5 spots, with Caleb Durbin moving up to sixth.
Jake Bauers will hit seventh in place of Rhys Hoskins, who suffered a thumb injury yesterday against Miami. X-rays were negative, but Hoskins is expected to miss “a few days.”
Andruw Monasterio will hit eighth, spelling Joey Ortiz at shortstop. Mona hit his first home run in more than a year during his last start against the Mets on July 3. Eric Haase will play catcher and hit ninth, giving Contreras a break behind the plate as he continues to play through a broken finger.
Today’s game will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports Wisconsin and available via radio on the Brewers Radio Network. First pitch is scheduled for 12:40 p.m. CT.
