Brewers look for sweep against scuffling Twins
The Milwaukee Brewers have dominated the Minnesota Twins through the first two games of this three-game series, with wins of 17-6 on Friday and 9-0 on Saturday. Today, the Brewers will look for their third sweep of the season, the others coming while they won eight in a row from May 25 through June 2, a stretch in which they swept both the Red Sox and Phillies.
To get them there, they’ll turn to Quinn Priester on the mound. As Brewers fans know, Priester has been great. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a game in over a month, and in his eight appearances since May 2 (when he allowed seven runs), Priester holds a 2.23 ERA and has walked only 10 batters in 44 1⁄3 innings. He’s allowed only three runs total across 17 innings in three June starts, and picked up a win against the Cardinals last Sunday when he struck out three, walked zero, and allowed one run on four hits.
On the mound for Minnesota is David Festa, who is 25 and in his second major league season. A tall and lanky right-hander, Festa has bounced back and forth between the Twins and Triple-A St. Paul this season. His major league outings have been a bit of a struggle — he holds a 4.78 ERA and has walked 4.1 batters per nine innings in six starts as a big leaguer this year. But he’s been quite good for the St. Paul Saints, for whom he’s also started six games, in which he holds a 2.83 ERA and has a K:BB ratio of 8.5 (34 strikeouts to just four walks in 28 2⁄3 innings).
The personnel on the field isn’t changing today, but there’s a slight tweak to the lineup, as Isaac Collins has been bumped up a couple of spots in the lineup and swapped places with Brice Turang. Collins bats fifth, with Turang seventh, sandwiched around Rhys Hoskins. As per usual, Christian Yelich is the DH and William Contreras will catch.
Today’s first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. and can be seen on FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin and heard on the Brewers Radio Network.
