Brewers look to bounce back after frustrating loss
The Brewers look to even the series today after dropping the first of three games to the Tampa Bay Rays. Check out our series preview here for more on how the Brewers match up and why the game will be taking place at (noted Rays icon) George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Tobias Myers, who sports a 3.65 ERA since returning from an oblique injury that caused him to miss the first month of the season, will get the ball today for the Crew. Myers earned the win in his last start (against the Astros on May 5), going 5 1⁄3 innings and allowing just a single earned run. Myers will face off against righty Taj Bradley, who has pitched to the tune of a 4.43 ERA in seven starts this season.
Jackson Chourio, who singled three times and stole a couple of bases yesterday, will lead things off again for Milwaukee. The lineup looks pretty much the same as yesterday, with Isaac Collins replacing Jake Bauers in left. Collins, who struck out in a pinch-hit at-bat yesterday, is hitting .250 with a 105 OPS+ on the season.
Caleb Durbin, slashing .226/.310/.323 as a Brewer, continues to start over the newly called-up Andruw Monasterio. Durbin (who’s had a hit in three of his last five games) went 1-for-4 with an RBI yesterday, continuing to be the only somewhat consistent hitter on the left side of the infield.
William Contreras is still in the lineup at catcher. Contreras (244/.362/.331) is putting up his most underwhelming offensive season as a Brewer, at least in part due to a fractured finger. The coach in me loves that he’s willing to dog out the injury, but he might benefit from an IL stint to let his finger heal.
In some quick-hitting roster updates, the Brewers’ transaction log indicates they’ve signed first baseman Bobby Dalbec to a minor league contract. Additionally, Adam McCalvy provided a quick update on Aaron Ashby and DL Hall, who are both on rehab assignments (Hall is with the ACL Brewers).
The Brewers have transferred LHP Aaron Ashby’s rehab assignment to Triple-A and he will be active tonight. The club has pivoted to prepping Ashby (oblique) and DL Hall (lat) to multi-inning relief roles, so their rehab outings will be more frequent in the coming days.
