Crew goes for first sweep of 2025 against Houston with Priester on the hill
The Milwaukee Brewers are looking for their first sweep of the 2025 season Wednesday afternoon, as they’ll look to take the final game of their three-game set with the Houston Astros in Milwaukee.
The Crew took Monday night’s game by a final of 5-1 before winning 4-3 last night, though all four of those runs came in the first inning.
Quinn Priester is on the hill opposite Framber Valdez for the Astros. Priester started his Brewers tenure allowing three runs over the first 14 innings (1.93 ERA) but has since allowed 12 runs in 9 1⁄3 innings (11.57 ERA) against the Cardinals and Cubs. Valdez has had two scoreless starts but has also allowed four-plus runs in three starts. His last start was a four-run outing against the White Sox, striking out six across five innings.
Manager Pat Murphy is rolling out a different lineup this afternoon, as Jackson Chourio leads off ahead of Isaac Collins, Christian Yelich (as the DH), and Rhys Hoskins. Daz Cameron is in right field and bats fifth, followed by Caleb Durbin at second, Vinny Capra at third, and Eric Haase behind the dish. Joey Ortiz rounds out the order.
Of note though not very concerning: William Contreras, who underwent an X-ray last night, does have a fracture in his middle finger that he’s been playing through. Adam McCalvy said he will continue to play through it and the team is working to make a splint to absorb some of the impact from catching.
Update after last night’s x-ray: The Brewers’ William Contreras does have a fracture of the middle finger on his catching hand, but it’s an old fracture that has bothered him for some time. He will continue to play through it.
