New additions headline today’s Brewers lineup

Despite Wednesday’s loss to the Chicago Cubs, the Milwaukee Brewers still have the best record in baseball. The Crew took two out of three from the Cubs and are now a game up in the NL Central as they head into a three-game set against the Washington Nationals

Jose Quintana has been a solid contributor at the back of Milwaukee’s rotation this year. The veteran lefty has made 15 starts with a 3.50 ERA, 4.77 FIP, and 55 strikeouts across 82 1⁄3 innings. He took the loss in his last appearance, against the Marlins, giving up five runs (two earned) over five innings while recording two strikeouts.

The Nationals are starting left-hander Mitchell Parker today. Parker has a 4.91 (4.46 FIP) through 21 starts so far this year. His home ERA (3.92) is almost a run better, and he’s won each of his last two starts. With that being said, Parker also has a 9.53 ERA in three career starts against Milwaukee.

While the Brewers didn’t do a lot leading up to the trade deadline, they did make a couple of moves. Brandon Lockridge (acquired from the Padres in exchange for Nestor Cortes and prospect Jorge Quintana) is leading off and playing right field. Danny Jansen (acquired from the Rays for prospect Jadher Areinamo) is hitting sixth and catching.

Today’s lineup is a little interesting given that Milwaukee just had a day off. Brice Turang, Sal Frelick, and Isaac Collins are all out of the lineup today. So is Jackson Chourio, who just hit the IL with a hamstring strain. Lockridge is followed in the lineup by William Contreras (at DH) and Christian Yelich (in left field). Andrew Vaughn will hit cleanup, with Caleb Durbin in the five-hole. Rounding out the lineup is Blake Perkins, Andruw Monasterio (at second base), and Joey Ortiz.

In other Brewers news, Pat Murphy provided a Chourio injury update before the game:

Jackson Chourio’s injury is “a little more severe” than initially thought, Pat Murphy said. To what extent, the Brewers are not yet sure. He received a PRP injection and will be out more than the 10-day minimum.

Could it be a month? “Could be.”

The game will be exclusively televised on Apple TV+, and — as always — available via radio on the Brewers Radio Network. First pitch is slated for 5:45 p.m. CT.
