Cubs Recall Pete Crow-Armstrong From Triple-A Iowa

May 31, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

MILWAUKEE – Pete Crow-Armstrong is back in the big leagues.

Cubs Recall Pete Crow-Armstrong From Triple-A Iowa

The Chicago Cubs outfielder was recalled from Triple-A Iowa Thursday morning and in manager Craig Counsell’s lineup ahead of his team’s series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field.

It’s the second big-league stint for Crow-Armstrong, who began the season atop the Cubs’ prospect rankings and among the top 20 minor-league prospects in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.com.

After slashing .138/.194/.241 with a .435 OPS in 29 Cactus League at-bats, Crow-Armstrong began the season at Iowa. He was slashing .203/.241/.392 when he was called up on April 24 when Cody Bellinger was placed on the injured list.

Crow-Armstrong saw action in 23 games for the Cubs, batting .236 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and nine RBIs before being sent back down to Iowa on May 20.

Since the demotion, though, Crow-Armstrong has been red-hot. In seven games with Iowa, he batted .387 (12-for-31). He hit four doubles, three home runs, seven RBIs, eight runs scored and a whopping 1.248 OPS.

“He certainly had a good 10-day stretch,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Thursday morning.

While Crow-Armstrong was in the lineup on Thursday, Counsell wasn’t ready to announce him as the everyday starter. Bellinger will still see action there but also move around a bit as Counsell works Crow-Armstrong into the lineup.

Counsell On Armstrong’s Playing Time

“I think Pete has to earn playing time,” Counsell said. “ We’re going to have some choices every day in the lineup … There’s going to be days when Pete doesn’t play. We obviously brought Pete to be a part of this and I think it gives us some more choices throughout the game and I expect that to evolve. Hopefully we get a good solution out of it.”
