Top Pitching Performance of the Week
No pitcher had a truly outstanding week, but Jared Koenig deserves a nod here as he got two of Milwaukee’s three wins this week, appearing in three games and allowing two runs (one earned) with two strikeouts across five innings of work. Trevor Megill also worked two perfect innings after returning from injury, collecting a save and striking out one. Tobias Myers was the top starter of the week, allowing five earned across the first 10 innings of his career and striking out nine in two starts.
Top Hitting Performance of the Week
Gary Sanchez had a breakout week for the Brewers, collecting two homers, two doubles, and four RBIs in six games on the week. Joey Ortiz also had a strong weekend series against the Yankees, collecting his first career MLB homer and walk-off on Friday night, finishing the three-game series going 4-for-9 with five RBIs and four walks as he raised his OBP from .351 entering the series to .394.
Injury Notes & Roster Moves
Tobias Myers: Myers was recalled to make his MLB debut against the Pirates on Tuesday. As mentioned above, he did his job, getting through five innings in both of his starts and allowing five total runs with nine strikeouts.
Wade Miley: Miley was placed on the injured list last Monday with elbow inflammation, but it was announced later in the week that he’ll miss the rest of the season as he requires Tommy John surgery. Miley said he’d like to go out on his own terms, so it’s possible this isn’t the last we’ll see of him as he has a mutual option for 2025.
Janson Junk and Jared Koenig: Koenig had a quality week for the Brewers, pitching both the 10th and 11th innings in Friday night’s win over the Yankees. He was sent down on Saturday as Junk got the call to provide further pitching depth. It turned out the Crew needed it, as Junk pitched in blowout losses on Saturday and Sunday.
Jakob Junis: Junis was struck by a line drive during batting practice in Pittsburgh last week. as he is rehabbing from a right shoulder injury. He was able to resume throwing by the weekend, though his return date is still unknown.
DL Hall: Hall has begun a rehab and strengthening program and has started playing catch. Manager Pat Murphy said he is “progressing,” and that he won’t need surgery to repair his left knee.
Christian Yelich: Yelich has begun running as he works his way back from a low back strain. “I think within a week, we’ll be in a better spot,” Murphy said on Sunday.
