Brewers take it to the White Sox, 6-1

Rowdy Tellez hits his first and second home runs as a Brewer

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago White Sox for a second consecutive time tonight, 6-1. Corbin Burnes matched up with Carlos Rodon, and Burnes was the better pitcher tonight. Burnes covered 6 IP while striking out 6 and giving up just a run. Rodon was off this evening. He was only able to get through 4 innings, and he gave up 2 home runs.

The Brewers took the early lead on Rodon and the White Sox and never looked back. To lead off the bottom of the first, Kolton Wong led off with a bomb into the second deck in right field.

The Brewers picked up a second run in the bottom of the second. Tyrone Taylor took the White Sox lefty deep this time.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Brewers put a couple of runs on the board in a pesky kind of way. Tyrone Taylor led the inning off with a single. In an attempt to sacrifice Taylor to second, Luis Urias ended up on second and Taylor on third because a throwing error by White Sox catcher, Zack Collins. Taylor would score on a nifty slide as Jose Abreu tried to throw him out at home off of a Rowdy Tellez ground ball. Tellez would be safe at first and Urias would move up 90 feet to third.

Rodon would walk the bases loaded as he issued a free pass to Manny Pina. After striking out Kolton Wong, Rodon would walk Willy Adames, scoring Urias.

The White Sox would get 1 on the board in the top of the fifth. They would load the bases with three straight singles by Yoan Moncada, Andrew Vaughn, and Brian Goodwin. Leury Garcia plated a run on a slow ground ball that was fielded by Burnes who was unable to throw out Moncada at home.

That is it was a run scored until we all found out that Moncada missed home plate. When Burnes stepped off the mound and threw the ball home to Manny Pina and asked for an appeal that was looked at on replay and the run turned into an out. That gave White Sox manager, Tony LaRussa the opportunity to ask a bunch of questions and get more replay of something that we will likely never know about because the results of replay in baseball are not shared with the audience.

That delayed the game for several minutes, and Corbin Burnes stood on the mound getting iced. Well the tactic worked. Burnes walked the next hitter, Zack Collins, and Vaughn scored. After that little hiccup. however, Burnes pulled it together and got out of the inning.

From there on out, it became the Rowdy Tellez show. In the sixth, he put one off the scoreboard. Then he did it again in the bottom of the eighth and it was time for a curtain call.

The 6-1 win over the White Sox puts the Brewers their 58th win on the season. The win also keeps Milwaukee 6.5 games up on the Cincinnati Reds who also won this evening against the St. Louis Cardinals who are 9 out. The Cubs also lost tonight to the Diamondbacks and fell 10 back.

These two teams go at it again tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 6:10 CT. Brandon Woodruff takes the hill for the Brewers, while Lance Lynn gets the ball for the White Sox. The game can be seen on ESPN and heard on WTMJ 620 and the Brewers Radio Network.
