Vladimir Gutierrez designated for assignment to make room on 40-man roster
The Brewers have selected right-hander Tobias Myers from Triple-A Nashville, optioning lefty Jared Koenig to make room on the active roster and designating Vladimir Gutierrez for assignment to create space on the 40-man roster.
Myers, 25, was a sixth-round pick by the Orioles in 2016. He signed with the Brewers in fall 2022 after bouncing around several organizations. Across 140 2⁄3 innings between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville last season, Myers went 10-5 with a 4.93 ERA and 175 strikeouts. In three starts this season for the Sounds, he’s 1-1 with 19 strikeouts and a 1.84 ERA across 14 2⁄3 innings.
He’ll likely be used as a long-relief option on Wednesday as Bryse Wilson gets the start in the series finale with San Diego. A Myers’ appearance would mark his MLB debut after spending parts of eight seasons in the minors with Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Cleveland, San Francisco, Chicago (AL), and Milwaukee.
Koenig, 30, became the 1,000th player to appear in a game in franchise history on Monday. He pitched both Monday and Tuesday, spanning 3 2⁄3 innings with two strikeouts and three hits allowed.
Gutierrez, 28, was claimed off waivers from the Marlins on April 5 and made just two appearances with Nashville, spanning 4 2⁄3 innings. He allowed seven runs (13.50 ERA) with two strikeouts, three walks, and seven hits allowed.
