After Hoskins exited Saturday’s game with a thumb injury, X-rays came back negative before an MRI revealed the sprain
Just as the Brewers got starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff back from injury, the team has lost another key player in first baseman Rhys Hoskins.
Hoskins, 32, suffered a left thumb sprain in Saturday’s loss to the Marlins, as an errant throw by Joey Ortiz resulted in a tag by Hoskins that will now send him to the injured list.
After initial X-rays came back negative, an MRI revealed a Grade 2 left thumb sprain, per Todd Rosiak. The official roster move will come Monday ahead of Milwaukee’s series with the Dodgers.

Hoskins got off to a strong start this season but hasn’t produced much since May, as he’s now hitting .242/.340/.428 with 12 homers, 12 doubles, 42 RBIs, and 30 runs scored in 82 games.
Update: As was widely speculated after he was pulled early at Triple-A Nashville today, the Brewers are calling up Andrew Vaughn.
The Brewers are calling up first baseman Andrew Vaughn, sources say. Vaughn, the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 draft, was recently acquired from the White Sox for Aaron Civale. https://t.co/TwfZTA7keA

Vaughn was acquired for Aaron Civale on June 13. As we’ve covered, he struggled mightily with the White Sox this season before being demoted to Triple-A at the end of May. In 15 games (not including today, in which he was pulled in the first inning) since the trade, Vaughn hit .259/.338/.500 with three doubles, a triple, and three home runs. He has hit 77 major league home runs in five seasons.
