Brewers make more roster moves after today’s trade

After the Aaron Civale-Andrew Vaughn swap earlier in the day, the Brewers made a few more moves late this morning as they fill out the active roster ahead of Friday night’s game against the Cardinals.

With Vaughn sent to Triple-A Nashville, the Brewers had an open spot on the active roster. That’ll go to reliever Grant Anderson, who was demoted earlier this week. Additionally, outfielder Daz Cameron was placed on the paternity list, with outfielder Drew Avans recalled to replace him on the active roster.

Anderson, 27, didn’t make any appearances for Nashville in the few days he was with the team, as he was stretched for 42 pitches in Monday night’s loss to the Braves. He allowed three runs on three hits and three walks over 1 1⁄3 innings in that one. On the season, he has a 3.86 ERA, 4.61 FIP, and 33 strikeouts over 32 2⁄3 innings, spanning 28 appearances.

Cameron, 28, acquired earlier in the season in a deal with the Orioles, has played in 19 games with Milwaukee, hitting .200/.220/.300 with a homer, three RBIs, and seven runs scored across 41 plate appearances. He’s primarily been a depth piece in the wake of injuries to Blake Perkins and Garrett Mitchell, who are both currently on the injured list.

Avans, 29 today (happy birthday!), was a 33rd-round pick by the Dodgers in 2018 and has played in just seven MLB games, all with the A’s earlier this year. Across 51 games between the Triple-A affiliates of the A’s and Brewers, Avans has hit .327/.411/.441 with four homers, 35 RBIs, 42 runs, and 19 steals. He was claimed off waivers last weekend and played in three games for the Sounds this week, hitting .308/.357/.385 with four hits and three steals.
