Jacob Misioroski strikes out 13 batters, cuts walk rate across eight innings of work
Each week, I’ll be bringing you a roundup of the Brewers minor league affiliates, including score updates, key players, and more. Here is the week five roundup.
Triple-A Nashville
The Sounds went 2-4 against the Louisville Bats (13-14) this week, falling to 13-14 and into a tie for fifth place in the International League West standings.
Tyler Black had another huge week on offense, collecting three homers and five RBIs while hitting .269/.345/.615. Isaac Collins also hit three homers and three doubles, drove in five, and led the team with nine hits as he slashed .409/.536/.955. As a team, the Sounds hit .249/.356/.402 with seven homers and 36 runs scored.
Robert Gasser made his season debut after returning from injury, lasting four innings and striking out five while allowing one run. Kevin Herget had a strong long-relief appearance, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out four across three scoreless innings. As a team, the pitching staff finished the week with a league-worst 8.28 ERA, striking out 54 across 50 innings.
The Sounds now return home to take on the Norfolk Tides (12-15), who are on a three-game win streak.
Double-A Biloxi
The Shuckers had a rough week in Pensacola, dropping five of six to the Blue Wahoos (11-10) as they fell to 11-10 on the season and into a three-way tie with Pensacola and Montgomery for first place in the division.
Mike Boeve had a strong first full week with the Shuckers, hitting .417/.481/.792 with a team-high 10 hits, including three doubles and three triples. Ernesto Martinez and Zavier Warren also homered for Biloxi. The Shuckers struggled as a team, hitting just .210/.307/.365 with two homers and 16 runs scored.
Jacob Misiorowski had his best week yet, spanning eight innings across two starts and allowing just one run on one hit and two walks with 13 strikeouts. Adam Seminaris spanned 6 ⅔ innings in two relief appearances, striking out seven and allowing one run. The pitching staff finished the week with a 3.71 ERA and a league-high 66 strikeouts in 51 innings.
The Shuckers stay on the road as they move on to Tennessee to battle the Smokies (11-9) for the first time this year.
High-A Wisconsin
Wisconsin stayed hot with a 5-1 week against the Peoria Chiefs (7-14) to improve to 15-6 and into a tie with Quad Cities for first place in the Midwest League West division.
Eduarqui Fernandez raked this week, collecting 11 hits including four doubles and two homers as he hit .524/.583/1.000. Luis Lara collected nine hits, four RBIs, and four steals, while Terence Doston went 7-for-15 with a .500 OBP. As a team, Wisconsin hit .266/.365/.406 with five homers and 38 runs scored.
On the mound, Mark Manfredi had another strong start, allowing one run and striking out eight across five innings of work. Brian Fitzpatrick worked 3 ⅔ scoreless innings in relief, striking out four, and Craig Yoho allowed just one unearned run in 2 ⅓ innings with five strikeouts. As a staff, the Rattlers had a 3.83 ERA, striking out 59 in 54 innings.
The Rattlers return home to battle the Great Lakes Loons, who lead the Midwest League East with a 14-7 record this season.
Single-A Carolina
Carolina went 3-3 against the Salem Red Sox (9-12), as the Mudcats managed to remain in first with a 15-6 record, one game ahead of Fredericksburg in the division.
Catcher Tayden Hall led the Mudcats with 11 hits in 22 at-bats this week, hitting .500/.522/.727 with three doubles and a triple. Yhoswar Garcia hit a homer and collected four hits in 16 at-bats, while David Garcia had four hits and three walks for a .400/.571/.500 slash line. As a team, the Mudcats hit .204/.286/.309 with three homers and 16 runs scored.
Yorman Galindez had a strong start, allowing just a solo homer and three walks while striking out eight in 3 ⅔ innings. K.C. Hunt totaled 4 ⅓ scoreless innings in relief, striking out seven. Daniel Corniel and Josh Knoth both had strong starts as well, as Corniel allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out six in 4 ⅔ innings, and Knoth allowed one run and struck out six in 3 ⅓ innings. As a pitching staff, the Mudcats had a 2.67 ERA, striking out 78 batters in 54 innings.
The Mudcats stay home to battle the Columbia Fireflies (12-8) this week.
