Uribe gets 6 games, Peralta 5 games, and Murphy 2 games. Jose Siri of the Rays suspended 3 games.
After last night’s game where the benches cleared and punches were thrown, MLB announced suspensions for the involved players and managers prior to this afternoon’s game against the Rays. For the Brewers, Abner Uribe was suspended for six games, Freddy Peralta for five games, and Pat Murphy for two games. Jose Siri of the Rays also received a three-game suspension. The three players are appealing, but Pat Murphy had to begin serving his suspension today. Siri is also serving a game of the suspension today, but hopes to have the length reduced. All were also fined an undisclosed amount.
All of the drama came from last night’s game. In the third inning, Jose Siri hit a long home run off of Freddy Peralta. Siri watched the home run go out and ran the bases slowly from there. It was the only hit Peralta allowed in his start. When Siri came up again in the sixth inning, Peralta hit him in the leg on a 3-0 count. Rays manager Kevin Cash asked the umpires to discuss the pitch, and after the discussion, they ruled it intentional and ejected Peralta. Manager Pat Murphy argued with the umpires and was ejected as well.
Two innings later, with Abner Uribe in the game, Siri came up to the plate again. Siri grounded out and Uribe covered first on the play. After that, Uribe and Siri exchanged some words, and Uribe tried to hit Siri. The two players started throwing punches, and the benches cleared. Both Uribe and Siri were ejected from there as their teammates had to restrain both of them.
By MLB rules, Murphy must serve his suspension immediately, so he will be out for today’s game and Friday’s game against the Cubs. Rickie Weeks will serve as acting manager. Meanwhile, Peralta and Uribe are both appealing. Siri is also appealing, but chose to serve a game of the suspension today.
