Monasterio homers four times, Made has best week as pro
As a reminder, every Monday morning I’ll be bringing you a quick recap of the previous week’s minor league activity — including highlights, roster updates, standout performances, and more.
Without further ado, here’s this week’s edition:
Triple-A Nashville (12-8)
The Sounds won five of six games this week against the Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A affiliate of the White Sox. Nashville had a slow start to the season, but they’ve only lost three games in the last two weeks and sit just half a game out of first place in their division (International League West).
Caleb Durbin and Logan Henderson, who both started the season in Nashville, got the call-up to Milwaukee this week. Henderson threw a gem in his major league debut, while Durbin recorded three hits in his first two games.
Back in Nashville, Andruw Monasterio took advantage of Durbin’s absence with four home runs on the week. Monasterio has four career home runs in the majors, so he probably won’t become Aaron Judge anytime soon. However, it’s worth a reminder that Monasterio is still in the Brewers’ system and isn’t any older than Oliver Dunn or Vinny Capra. If the Brewers can’t get production out of the third base spot, he might work his way back into the mix.
Other standout performances in Nashville this week included the newly acquired Daz Cameron (10-for-23, 2 HR, 12 RBI) and the rehabbing Tobias Myers (5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER).

Ernesto Martinez Jr., who I’ve also written about pretty much every week, didn’t have a super impressive week (6-for-23, 5 K, 1 HR). He still earns a mention because Isaac Collins graduated from prospect status, which means Martinez is now officially the Brewers’ No. 30 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline.
Looking ahead to next week, Nashville will face off against the Durham Bulls — the Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays — in a six-game series beginning Tuesday.
Double-A Biloxi (6-9)
The Shuckers won four of six this week against the Birmingham Barons, the Double-A affiliate of the White Sox. Biloxi won games mainly on the strength of their pitching, which held the Barons to one run or less in three of their wins.
None of Biloxi’s pitchers rank among Milwaukee’s top prospects, and none sport super impressive stats apart from Alexander Cornielle. Cornielle, a 23-year-old prospect from the Dominican Republic, has given up just a single run in three starts for the Shuckers. He has a career ERA of 3.96, but his stats this year are ridiculous — 18 strikeouts to just six hits allowed in 12 2⁄3 innings pitched. During his most recent start, he racked up nine Ks in the first three innings.
As for the position players, top prospect Cooper Pratt is now slashing .274/.343/.435 after a .333/.467/.500 week. Pratt had a slow start to the season but is heating up in the last couple weeks. Luis Lara (No. 20) put up a .360/.467/.400 stat line, albeit with just one extra-base hit. He gets on base consistently but has just four extra-base hits in 61 ABs this season. The 20-year-old Lara is still developing, so increased power very well may come with age.
Next week, the Shuckers will take on the Montgomery Biscuits — the Double-A affiliate of the Rays — in a six-game series.
High-A Wisconsin (5-10)
The Timber Rattlers lost five of six games this week against the Lansing Lugnuts, the High-A affiliate of the Athletics. This makes two rough weeks in a row for Wisconsin — they don’t have a single hitter hitting .300 (except for now-Red Sox prospect Yophery Rodriguez, who was traded two weeks ago). Jadher Areinamo, Yhoswar Garcia, Eduardo Garcia, and Blake Burke were the only Shuckers to hit over .250 on the week. Better things ahead for the young, talented Timber Rattlers.
Next week, Wisconsin will face off with the Cedar Rapids Kernels in a six-game series.
Single-A Carolina (13-2)
Carolina, like I said last week, has been playing the best baseball of any of the Brewers’ affiliates. The Mudcats took five of six games from the Delmarva Shorebirds this week, bringing their record to a Carolina League-best 13-2.
Jesus Made had his best week as a pro, going 7-for-19 with a double and a triple. Made looks to be settling in nicely with the Mudcats, showing good plate discipline and getting on base consistently. Infield prospects Luis Peña (.375 on the week) and Josh Adamczewski (.313) both homered. Outfielder Braylon Payne cooled off a little bit (4-for-16) after a hot start but still managed to hit a home run. He’s hitting .300 on the season.
Carolina will play a six-game series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels next week.

Player of the Week
Alexander Cornielle, who started two games for Double-A Biloxi this week. His final stat line? 6 2⁄3 innings, one earned run, and 14 strikeouts.

The movement on whatever that breaking ball is (sinker, I guess?) is too nasty for Double-A hitters. Cornielle won’t maintain a 0.71 ERA, but he’s worth monitoring if he continues to pitch this well. For now, just enjoy the film:
